Requirement of NCV and EMG Tests

When your muscles are weak or sore, or you experience tingling, numbness, or any other unusual sensation, you may have a problem with your muscles or nerves. EMG/NCV testing detects nerve and muscle issues such as neuropathies, carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, and diseases of the neck and spine. It is a nerve and muscle function test that is used to supplement clinical evaluations and imaging studies such as MRI.  The test can be used to diagnose nerve and muscular illnesses, as well as conditions such as ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) and myasthenia gravis.

What is EMG?

When nerve signals from the brain direct your muscles to move, they do so. Electromyography assesses how well your muscles respond to electrical signals.

If the test reveals an issue, you may be diagnosed with a neuromuscular condition.

What is NCS?

Nerve signals are electrical impulses that rapidly move through your neural system. Electrical activity abnormalities in your nerves can sometimes cause discomfort, tingling, or weakening in your muscles.

NCS evaluates the speed and strength of electrical activity in a nerve. The test can determine whether or not a nerve has been injured.

Symptoms:

EMG/NCV testing allow physicians to determine the cause of muscle cramps, extremities weakness, spine-related disorders that cause numbness and/or tingling sensations, and a variety of other severe health conditions.
